Finding Your Rhythm as a New Mother
There is no perfect routine for motherhood. Start by finding what works for you and your baby.
Forget the perfect routine
Social media has a funny way of making motherhood look beautifully organised. Matching outfits, spotless homes, meal-prepped lunches and babies sleeping peacefully at exactly the right time.
Real motherhood can look very different.
Some days you will have a routine. Other days the routine will disappear before breakfast.
That doesn't mean you're doing it wrong.
Find your rhythm instead
A rhythm is different from a rigid schedule. It gives you something familiar to return to without making you feel like the whole day has failed because one thing happened later than planned.
You might find that mornings are your easiest time for getting things done. Maybe your baby tends to sleep at a particular time. Maybe evenings are when you finally get a few minutes for yourself.
Pay attention to what works rather than trying to recreate somebody else's routine.
Focus on what matters
- Your baby's basic needs
- Your own recovery and wellbeing
- Rest whenever you can get it
- People who genuinely support you
- Professional care when you need it
Give yourself permission to change the plan
Your baby will change. You will change. What works this week might not work next week.
Instead of seeing that as failure, think of it as information.
Motherhood is full of adjustment. You are allowed to keep learning.
