Asking for Help Doesn't Make You a Bad Mother
Sometimes the strongest thing you can do is admit that you need support.
You were never supposed to know everything
Nobody hands you a manual that explains exactly what to do when your baby won't sleep, feeding suddenly becomes difficult, you feel overwhelmed or you simply don't know what comes next.
You learn.
You ask questions.
You try something, discover it doesn't work and try again.
That's motherhood.
Needing help is not failure
There is a strange expectation that a 'good mother' should somehow know what her baby needs at all times.
But babies are new to the world, and mothers are learning too.
Getting advice from a healthcare professional, asking a friend to help with the baby or telling your partner that you need a break does not make you less capable.
Start with one person
If asking for help feels uncomfortable, don't start with a huge request.
Choose one person you trust and tell them what is actually going on.
You might simply say, 'I've been having a really hard week. Could you check in on me tomorrow?'
Sometimes one honest conversation is enough to remind you that you aren't carrying everything alone.
You deserve support too
Your baby needs you, but that doesn't mean you need to disappear into motherhood.
Taking care of yourself helps create space for you to care for your baby too.
So if you need help today, ask.
You don't need to wait until you're at breaking point.
